WEST COAST PROXEMICS

Textile exploration
Having been abroad for almost two years living within a society that highly differs from my own upbringing, I was interested in exploring the language that Mexican culture creates when residing in foreign territories, in both physical and conceptual spaces.West Coast Proxemics is a collection developed with two specific concepts in mind. The theoretical framework of the project was built around the theory of proxemics, which explores the cultural characteristics of physical distance between people. This informed the conceptual decisions as well as silhouette definition. On the aesthetic side, the cholo culture was thoroughly deconstructed and utilized as specific visual cues that were later translated into a variety of treatments, materials and graphics for the final pieces.
